Exterior Painting · Melbourne

Exterior painting built to survive Melbourne weather.

Sun, driving rain and forty-degree swings strip a bad paint job in a couple of summers. We prepare properly, coat properly, and leave a finish that still looks sharp a decade from now — on homes, warehouses and everything between.

The finish lasts as long as the preparation does.

Most exterior paint failures in Melbourne aren't paint failures at all — they're preparation failures. Coating straight over chalked render, flaking weatherboard or a damp substrate buys you two good summers and then it lifts.

Renovaco Group works the other way around. Every exterior job starts with an on-site inspection to find what's actually going on: moisture in the walls, rusting fixings, rotted sills, failed caulking, previous coatings that were never sealed. We fix the substrate first, then build the coating system on top of it. That's the difference between a repaint and a respray.

  • Full pressure wash and decontamination on every job
  • Timber repairs, filling and re-caulking before any coat goes on
  • Substrate-matched primers and sealers, not a one-size undercoat
  • Two full topcoats, cut in by hand where it matters

Commercial exterior painting

Warehouses, factory units, office facades, shopfronts and strata blocks. Scheduled in stages or after hours so your operation keeps running while we work.

  • Precast concrete, tilt-slab and cement sheet
  • Colorbond, metal cladding and roller doors
  • Line marking touch-ups, bollards and safety elements
  • Elevated work platforms and scaffold where access demands it
  • Staged programmes to minimise operational downtime
Surfaces we coat

Every substrate needs a different system

Render doesn't behave like weatherboard, and neither behaves like Colorbond. We match the primer, the coating and the number of coats to what we're actually painting.

Weatherboard & timber

Scraped, sanded, spot-primed and re-caulked. Rotted boards replaced before coating.

Render & cement sheet

Chalking removed, cracks cut out and filled, then sealed with a masonry primer.

Brick & masonry

Efflorescence treated and a breathable system applied so moisture can still escape.

Colorbond & metal

Degreased and etch-primed. Rust cut back and treated so it doesn't bleed through.

Fascia & gutters

The first thing to fail on a Melbourne home and the first thing we check.

Eaves & soffits

Cleaned of cobweb and mould, then coated in a washable low-sheen finish.

Windows, doors & trim

Hand cut-in with a hard-wearing enamel or satin for the pieces that get touched.

Garage & roller doors

Prepped and coated in a finish that tolerates constant movement and sun.

Fences & decks

Stained, oiled or painted depending on the timber and how exposed it is.

Pergolas & verandahs

Posts, beams and lining boards brought back and sealed against the weather.

How the job runs

Six stages, no shortcuts

You'll know what's happening on your property every day it's happening — and what it costs before we start.

STAGE 01

On-site inspection & fixed quote

We walk the property, test the existing coating, check for moisture and damage, then send a written, itemised quote within 24 hours. Free, no obligation.

STAGE 02

Protection & safe access

Drop sheets down, windows and hardware masked, garden beds and paving covered. Ladders, scaffold or an EWP set up depending on the elevation.

STAGE 03

Pressure wash & decontaminate

Years of dirt, chalking, mould and — near the bay — salt residue washed off. Surfaces left to dry fully before anything else happens.

STAGE 04

Repair & prepare

Loose paint scraped, edges feathered, cracks cut and filled, rotted timber replaced, rust treated, gaps re-caulked. The stage that decides how long the job lasts.

STAGE 05

Prime & seal

Substrate-specific primers — masonry sealer on render, oil-based on bare timber, etch primer on metal. Bare patches never go straight to topcoat.

STAGE 06

Two topcoats & sign-off

Two full coats at the manufacturer's spread rate, then we walk the property with you. Anything you're not happy with gets fixed before we pack up.

Paint & finishes

Choosing the right sheen level

We use premium, low-VOC, weather-resistant exterior systems from trusted brands. The sheen you pick changes how the wall reads and how easily it cleans.

Matte

Flattens imperfections on older render and brick. Least reflective, most forgiving on uneven walls.

Low-sheen

The workhorse for Melbourne exteriors. Subtle lift, washable, hides surface variation well.

Satin

A soft sheen for weatherboard, doors and trim. Wipes clean and holds colour under UV.

Semi-gloss

Hardest wearing. Front doors, window frames, handrails and anything handled daily.

Common questions

Before you call

How long does an exterior repaint take?

Most Melbourne homes take between 4 and 10 days, depending on size, the condition of the existing surfaces and how difficult the access is. Commercial jobs are quoted with a staged programme. Weather can extend any exterior job — we won't coat a damp surface to hit a date.

What time of year is best for exterior painting in Melbourne?

Spring through autumn is ideal. We work year-round, but we won't apply coatings in rain, on damp substrates, or when temperatures sit below roughly 10°C — the paint won't cure properly and the finish suffers.

How long will the paint last?

With correct preparation and a premium coating system, you should expect many years of service from an exterior repaint. North- and west-facing walls take the most UV and typically show wear first. Proper prep is the single biggest factor in how long it holds.

Do you repair damage before painting?

Yes. Cracked render, rotted timber, rusted metal, failed caulking and loose previous coatings are all addressed before any paint goes on. Anything significant we find during inspection is itemised in your quote, so there are no surprises mid-job.

Is pressure washing included?

Yes — on virtually every exterior job. Dirt, chalking, mould and salt residue all stop paint bonding, so washing and full drying is a standard stage, not an add-on.

What kind of paint do you use?

Premium, low-VOC, long-lasting exterior paints from trusted brands, matched to each substrate — masonry systems on render and brick, flexible acrylics on timber, etch primers and enamels on metal.

Can you help me choose colours?

Yes. Colour consultation is part of the quoting process. We'll work with your roof colour, window frames, the architecture of the house and the surrounding streetscape — and flag anything that may be restricted if your property sits under a heritage overlay.

Do you paint commercial and industrial buildings?

We do — warehouses, factory units, office facades, shopfronts and strata blocks. Work can be staged or scheduled after hours so your operation keeps running. Renovaco also offers dedicated commercial painting services.

Are you licensed and insured?
